More than a hundred people attended the opening of the exhibition of the AAN in the Ria Formosa Nature Park- Quinta do Marim - Olhão last week. There was much interest in the different works and paintings. The visitors divided their time between the gallery, visiting the outside installations by the Ria and the water mill (moinho de maré), having snacks and drinks and enjoying the music from a very warm and happy group called Gypsy Kletzmer Confusion Band (Tel. 00351-961093342). Young and old enjoyed discovering some art integrated with nature while the music blew in the wind.The exhibition continues until June 15th.

OPEN STUDIO WEEKENDS THIS AUTUMN!

The Algarve Artists Network will be opening their studios to the public again over two weekends this autumn.

September 25th-26th, and October 2nd - 3rd, from 10.30H until 20H.

The Open Studio weekends have been organised to promoting the making of original works of art and to provide an opportunity for the public to become involved in the arts by meeting artists in their studios, seeing their work and how it is produced. A wide variety of work will be on sale at reasonable prices.

The paintings that Takae is exhibiting are all based on landscape in her own inimitablew style....a mixture controlled brushwork and an experimental use of paint that defies logic....the appearance of the surface of the canvas is of paint that has been spattered.......dribbled......rolled....which intensifies the richness of the surface of the canvas......the canvases take on an abstract quality....full of atmospheric light......they evoke a sense of place...the show is well worth a visit.

Kasia Wrona "Flames of inspiration" at Lagos

An exhibition by Polish artist Kasia Wrona entitled “Flames of Inspiration” opens at the Lagos Cultural Centre on 27th March and will run until 22nd May.

This an exhibition results primarily from the strong and frightening experience that the artist felt during the fire that devastated Serra de Monchique in 2003. From this experience and the subsequent observation of the self regeneration of natural life, a set of paintings was created. This is contextualised the exhibition in the CCL together with an installation consisting of many objects / "eyes." In this series of works the artist expresses her interpretation of the primordial elements of life and affirms artistically the "spiritual kinship with nature."

Jessica has exhibited extensively across Portugal, as well as in England, including the Eaton Gallery in London and at the Biennale Internazionale Dell’Arte Contemporanea in Florence. Her works are represented in various private collections in Portugal and abroad. Vibrant is an apt description of Jessica Dunn´s collection of oil paintings: The sun,the sea and music of Portugal are all strong influences in her work. Her images of children playing on beaches are achieved with a lively brush-stroke and vivid palette,creating a delightful sense of spontaneity.Equally captivating are her portraits of musicians and dancers and her animal paintings are portrayed with great affection and humour

Seegrun Lubke's work is concerned movement, like dance.

Later the desire for abstract graphic elements showed up in Seegrun’s work. In this sequence, the lines become larger with volume and the themes become more contemporary, done both in oil and acrylic. This process hides many challenges such as the language of forms, colours, rhythm and of the brush strokes. Other aspects to be considered are the material used, its texture and its surface.The communication between the interior and the exterior, the conscious and the unconscious, are for Seegrun essential parts of the creative process.
